Wish Upon A Hero | Columbus Ohio baby photographer

I’ve been slacking off on my posting sessions, must get back in the habit! :-)

But I just wanted to take a moment to talk about this organization,Wish Upon A Hero.  I’d never heard of it before.  But a week or so ago, I got a call from a wish ambassador, on behalf of baby Leighton’s family, who made a wish to have a special family day and do have a family portrait taken.  They explained their situation and asked if I would be willing to donate my services for their pictures.  I said “Sure!” and went online to read about them.  Here is their wish and their story:

http://www.wishuponahero.com/wishes/?id=272347

Wish upon a Hero is an organization web site where ordinary people can wish, and ordinary people can be a hero in a small way.  I personally always find it more satisfying to donate a bag of clothes to someone who can use it, than to anonymously drop it off somewhere, where I’m not totally sure where they’ll end up.  If someone does something nice for you, you can pay it forward and do something meaningful for someone else.

So this session that I’m about to blog, was their “Hero” session, and very special to both myself and them.  Baby Leighton is 6 months old, and sweet as pie.  Mom & Dad were so excited to finally get some pictures of her, and they came with their cowboy boots and hat to show their Texas pride.  Here are some of my favorites from their 6 month baby photography session:

Family portraits at Homestead Park | Columbus Ohio family photographer

This past weekend, I had the honor of photographing this lovely family for the third time! The last time was for the youngest daughter’s 2 year pictures, and this year she is turning 3! And she is just as spunky as ever. You’ll see one from the 2 year session in the blog header, that one was also at Homestead Park in Hilliard, OH.

Here are a few of my favorites from their session:

Welcome baby Jolie | Columbus OH newborn photographer

I had the pleasure of meeting new baby Jolie (such a pretty name!) for her newborn photo session. We did her parents’ maternity session about a month ago (which you can see the sneak peek if you scroll down a bit in the blog). She has so much chub already, and I think she has the world record for the biggest poo during her photo session. :-) Here are some favorites for a sneak peek:

Patricia & Michael’s wedding | Columbus Ohio wedding photographer

On April 25, 2009 I had the pleasure of witnessing and photographing Patricia & Michael’s wedding, which took place at First United Methodist Church in Newark, Ohio. It was a beautiful church with an awesome big window behind the altar. The reception was held at the Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

Click here to view the entire wedding gallery (Click the slideshow button to view them BIG).

Here are a few favorites:

That’s her grandmother, who at 87, flew all the way from the Philippines to be at her wedding (with her grandfather too). That’s a long way to fly at any age, let alone 87!

I was a bit amused because all the guests upon entering were all waiting in line to sign the guestbook! We were wondering where people were, and then found out they were all standing in line waiting to enter the church.

I was able to run up to the balcony to capture this wide angle shot of the wedding while the minister was giving a 5 minute speech. I really like how it shows everything.

One from the series of the bride & groom shots after the ceremony in the church’s courtyard.

A panorama from when we got to the golf course for a few quickie shots.

These guys were a riot! I have some fun photos of them dancing, too.

Patricia hugged the guest and their dresses stuck together… it took 2 more people to get them unstuck. All was well, the dresses were unharmed.

Someone came over to me and said “hey, there’s an awesome sunset out there!” So we went out and got some great sunset shots.

I love this shot of them dancing!

They had a lot of dancing going on! The couple on the left, they really knew how to move!

love this shot of Mike.

Ok it’s hard to pick out all the favorites, so look at them all on that link above. :-)

Photographing Patricia & Michael’s wedding was so much fun, and it was so beautiful, you couldn’t ask for a better day. Best wishes to the happy couple!

Brenna, class of 2009 | Senior Pictures Photographer in Columbus OH

Brenna was a little bit of a straggler getting her senior pictures done since it’s almost graduation time!  We had so much fun though, she brought a lot of outfits and things for props, and we started in the studio before heading over to the Short North, ending with some nighttime images.  I’m still working on whittling them down to a reasonable number, there’s  so many good ones!
First we have “funny picture of the evening”.  This guy wasn’t the only person to ask for his picture taken (just the only person to actually pose).

This is the picture I was working on capturing when the guy showed up.  Actually there was a parked car RIGHT where I wanted to stand.  And I was just saying how I wished I could go inside the car to get the angle that I wanted.  When lo and behold, the car’s owner came to drive it away.  Hooray!

Fun maternity pictures sneak peek | Columbus Ohio maternity photographer

I had a blast doing these maternity pictures at the new studio space.  My previous spaces were smaller or I was lugging a bunch of equipment, so I wouldn’t bring everything I might want to use.  So we had a lot of fun doing the creative shots I’ve been wanting to try out, we even went outside for some urban sunset shots!

This first one is an “almost silhouette”… you let some spill of the lights on the subjects so they’re not totally dark and you can see some features.

While this next one is a true silhouette… this was outside with the sky in the background.  Awww aren’t they cute?

This next one is with a fancy fabric panel for the background and one of my maternity wraps:

Then I have a series like this next one that was really fun, doing some dancing maternity pictures. :)

And this last one is a nightscape shot (it looks darker outside than it really was).  We were out on Oak Street, running into the middle of the street, snapping a picture real quick, and then going back to the side to avoid the cars.  I think everyone was out driving on that street right when we went out! :)

If you happened upon my blog via a search engine and are looking for a photographer in the Columbus, Ohio area, you might want to go check out my main site which is at http://www.dgnphoto.net, where I have galleries & pricing information. And as always if you have any questions or would like to book a photography session, you can give me a call at 614-323-3147.

What kind of photography do I do? I am a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, but I would say I am primarily a portrait photographer and the majority of my clientele are people wanting family portraits, senior pictures, maternity & newborn photos, and children & baby portraiture. And then secondly I’m a wedding photographer, and I accept a limited number of weddings per year. Occasionally I wear a pet photographer hat, and I also do corporate & acting headshots. My studio is in uptown Westerville (hours available by appointment only), in the Columbus Ohio area, but I split my time there and out on location shoots (parks and urban areas are my favorite!)

Happy April! Blog contest!

Edit: I’m making this post a sticky so it stays at the top, until the end of the month.  But check out the new stuff underneath this post!

——

I can’t believe that winter is really over and we’re pushing into nicer weather! So it’s that time of year… when I start to get itchy to jump start the spring season with a blog contest!!

So how would you, my dear readers, like to have a chance to win a free photo session with me, and capture the beauty of the springtime? To enter, just send a message via the contact form (http://www.dgnphoto.net , click “enter”, then “contact”) with your name, phone #, and email address. (I promise no spamming, it’s just to contact you if you win). Maybe say something nice in the message. :) That will put your name in the hat. To get more chances to win, get some of your friends to enter the contest and say that you referred them. For each friend who says you referred them, you will get an additional entry (and the friend will get their entry).

The big drawing will be held on May 1. Names will be on little pieces of paper in a hat, and I’ll videotape the drawing. The honorary judge will be:

vivi

Miss Vivienne! She is now 20 months old, and here she is sporting her “new” haircut. Bald spot under her bangs are courtesy her big brother.

The winner of the drawing will receive: a gift certificate good for 1 year (until May 1, 2010), for the session fee and the Basic Package (total value $250).  Small print: Session must take place in the Columbus, Ohio area.  Gift certificate is not transferrable, the winner must be able to come to Columbus for the session.  Contest winnings cannot be redeemed for cash.  Good luck! :)
