Moeraki boulders

I was reminded of the Moeraki boulders this past weekend when I showed our photobook from our 2006 New Zealand trip to a native New Zealander.  These boulders were pretty amazing, almost like they are something from another planet.  Perfectly round (and BIG), and the ones broken open have very interesting interiors.  I think you’ll be in awe too when you see these pictures. (New Zealand is a photographer’s paradise if you haven’t figured it out already!)

And she said, “Let them eat cake”

The title just sort of came to me to go with the picture for today.  Today we had a dual birthday party for my sister and I… she’s turning 23 and me 32 (what a fun play with numbers).  My birthday was May 2, and her birthday is May 7, so pretty much since she was born we’ve had a dual birthday party.

Maylie was so excited to give me her birthday present, and it was wrapped very carefully in Kleenex and tape, and decorated with marker.  Inside were two home-made paper dolls, that she drew and cut out, with some clothing that she also drew and cut out (which actually does fit the doll).  One was a princess and the other was a girl.  The girl had a crown and a dress to put on.  It was very clever and cute, but Maylie liked the gift and took it to play with herself.  I must take a picture of it for posterity if we can find it again.

My mom made a cake for me and a cake for my sister.  I’m not sure how they came up with 6 candles, but here was my cake:

Stalk the blog winner

Congrats to Lori M. for successfully stalking the blog… I fell asleep early last night and hadn’t updated the blog.  Whoops!  She wins a $10 Starbucks gift certificate for being the first person to email me about it.

In other news, Maylie just came up to me and said that she has a loose tooth.  I was having flashbacks of last August when she knocked one of her top teeth loose when she hit it on the bannister. (Thankfully, the tooth reset itself and is as good as new).  So I asked her if she knocked it on something, and she said “My tongue hit it and now it’s loose!”  My little girl is growing up… (and quickly I need to talk with my husband and find out how much money the Tooth Fairy is going to leave)

In honor of her, here is one of the shots I took of her in the Short North (playing in a puddle, which both kids jumped in a minute later)

On location photography in the Short North

I took the kids down to the Short North this morning, to scout out new locations for photography.  There are some really neat textures and backgrounds down there, all close together.  Apparently it’s a pretty popular place for pictures, because as I was packing the kids up in the car, I saw another photographer taking some engagement photos of a couple right in one of the spots I was using with the kids.

(too bad it started raining 5 minutes after I left)

This one was my favorite:

This is how Vivi entertained herself while we were taking pictures:

Child portraits in dandelions

I’m a little bit ahead of the game, posting some of my photography at 12:30 AM for the day, but I was inspired by the beautiful fields (ok, neighbors’ yards) of dandelions.  My husband sprays our yard so we don’t have very many in our yard. I thought, wouldn’t it be cute to have the girls sit in the field of dandelions and take the children’s portraits?

Maylie decided to drag the cat along for the ride.  She protested, but then accepted her fate.  And yes, Vivi did try to eat a dandelion…

I really like how these portraits turned out.

So this is what a big display looks like…

I got part of my order of large prints and frames yesterday!  I actually got all the large prints, but just the frame for the largest photo.  I received a notice yesterday that the rest were shipped yesterday (from Maumee, so hopefully I will get them today).  Then I’m just waiting on a framing tool I bought off Ebay, and I can finish up the framing and take them to get hung up.  This has been a big project, that’s for sure.

The largest one is 32×40, it’s mounted on hardboard (all the prints are mounted).  They all have a digital mat, which I created in Photoshop to make them look like they’re matted.  I like how they look without glass, and a digital mat allows you to frame them without glass (the mat won’t get dusty).

The rolled up one is a misprint of the largest print.  That was an expensive mistake on my part. (there was an error on the digital mat that they caught and called me about).

One thing’s for sure, the kids are going to have a blast with the 32×40″ pieces of cardboard that they were shipped with!
