These photos are close to my heart! I had an idea of some photos that I wanted to create for my youngest daughter, because I have canvas art of her siblings on our walls but none of her. So I got this idea of doing a fantasy theme… the problem is usually finding the time to do it, so this has been an ongoing “idea” for a few months.

So I ordered this dress from Ebay, and had some help to decorate it a bit with some flowers, and had a 15 minute photo session while my son had his gymnastics class to try it out. I have some other ideas so these will probably not be the only photos in this dress.

Stay tuned, I think in the fall or whenever we have some more time, we will go have another fairy tale photography session.

If you happened upon my blog via a search engine and are looking for a photographer in the Columbus, Ohio area, you might want to go check out my main site which is at http://www.dgnphoto.net, where I have galleries & pricing information. And as always if you have any questions or would like to book a photography session, you can give me a call at 614-323-3147.

What kind of photography do I do? I am a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, but I would say I am primarily a portrait photographer and the majority of my clientele are people wanting family portraits, senior pictures, maternity & newborn photos, and children & baby portraiture. And then secondly I’m a wedding photographer, and I accept a limited number of weddings per year. Occasionally I wear a pet photographer hat, and I also do corporate & acting headshots. My studio is in uptown Westerville (hours available by appointment only), in the Columbus Ohio area, but I split my time there and out on location shoots (parks and urban areas are my favorite!)

I don’t normally write too much personal stuff on the blog and try to keep it photography-focused. But I have had some time to think, on the long long drive home from Lansing, MI this past weekend. My brother called me Saturday night at around 10 pm to tell me that our grandfather had passed away. It was one of those things that was expected at some point, but this was pretty sudden considering my grandma had emailed a week ago saying he was doing great. (He had bad alzheimer’s and had gotten fairly frail… definitely not the strong retired oil tank driver that we all remember). The one thing I regret is that I hadn’t been up to visit since September… we had planned on it in January but they had a huge snowstorm and travel wasn’t advised.

After that, we just got too busy this weekend, and too busy that weekend. And now… it’s too late to visit, and all there is left are some ashes and memories. So everyone reading this… just a thought for today… life can change in an instant, don’t put off what you should be doing today. If you haven’t gone to visit someone you care about… don’t have any regrets, go visit them. (and if they wonder why you’re visiting them, just tell them Dianna told you to )

We just got back from a week up at Put-in-Bay. Whew. It was a great vacation, but the last day was something else. Most everyone left the day before, so it was just my family and my cousin with her 2 year old son still there. Only, my husband was too sick to move, so it mostly was just me doing the clean up and packing (thankfully my cousin was there to help with the kids).

Then, we had to wait for 2 hours with 4 little kids in the car for the ferry boat. Then, my cousin’s son’s diaper leaked all over Greg’s car seat. The kids were so crabby the entire 2 hour car ride home. And THEN… our old fart cat had pooped and peed all over the house (we hired the neighbor’s 12 yr old to come over and feed the cats, give the old cat his medicine, bring in mail, etc). And my husband’s tomato plants are about dead.

And that was just one day. The rest of the trip, though, was a really good time. Lots of relaxation, fishing, bike riding, and hunting for mulberry trees. Vivi went from mostly crawling with a few steps to being a total walker while we were away, AND she started doing some baby signs. (’duck’, ‘eat’, and then making up a bunch that we’re not sure what they mean yet). It’s just so cute.

We had all the great-grandkids together, and got the promised shot of the 6 of them together (the youngest really wanted to run off):

I have a lot more pictures, but haven’t totally gone through them yet. I’ll be sure to post a few when I do!

Maylie got a camera upgrade from her dollar store film camera with no film… My sister gave her a very very old digital camera, and Maylie was thrilled beyond belief. She started to get the hang of framing people’s faces in the picture instead of cutting them off. She was chattering about how she is going to be my TWIN because we both have cameras, so she can take pictures too!

And then, the same day it was given to her, she accidently dropped it on hardwood floor and broke the lens. The camera now only says “system error” if you try to press the shutter. She was devastated. I feel bad for her. (I’ll probably get her another cheap one for her birthday… next January)

But, here she is, happily taking pictures for that short time that she had her very own digital camera:

I snapped a few shots today of the kids. Here is the story behind them:

So, yesterday, we had a stir fry for dinner. Yum! Greg usually likes it, but didn’t want to eat his dinner. So we stuck it in the fridge, and I served it for his lunch today. I don’t know if he was just being stubborn, but instead of eating, he sat and played. This morning during breakfast, he strung grapes on this pipe cleaner (which was from one of Maylie’s art projects at school… I’m assuming they ate the Froot Loops off of it).

He then ate the grapes off of the pipe cleaner, and then used it to play with while … well, I can’t say eating, but sitting at the table and playing.

Vivi, on the other hand, possibly learned to eat inedible objects from her big brother. Today, she had a snack of yellow crayon, the remnants still showing on her innocent little face. Here she is, telling her brother to keep playing, it’s fun!

And well, she was just being plain cute while blowing raspberries at me. Crayon-flavored ones.

Tonight I have a bridal session, and tomorrow a newborn session, so I’ll be posting some sneak peeks from those soon.

For some reason, I can take great pictures of other people, but when it comes to taking pictures of myself, it takes me 50 tries to get one where I’m relatively centered in the frame. And isn’t some weird angle like up the nose. So after 50 tries of the ol’ self-portrait with a camera in the bathroom mirror (look ma, no toothpaste spots!), this is what I came up with:

This is for the redesign of my web site. It’s been a lot of work… I’m hoping to get it completed in the next couple of weeks. I can’t update my current site on my Mac, I have to pull out an old Dell laptop that randomly shuts down to do so, so the site just doesn’t get updated. The new site’s template can be updated easily from the Mac, and it’s a bit more robust (lots more “things”), so I’m excited that I’m getting closer to getting it up and running!

We went to a picnic over at Blacklick Woods today, and I took along my little point & shoot camera. Here are a few favs:

This one is a fav, just because it makes me giggle. I was trying to take a cute baby picture, but his mom was making funny faces at another baby (to make HIM laugh). So I caught a cute baby with a silly mom picture.

I really like this picture, just because of how he’s peeking out from the blanket. He was either eating his hot dog or trying to take a nap, so it seemed that I was disturbing him.

Just a boy playing in the dirt. I was playing with some bright colors with Photoshop, and I kind of like the effect on how it brings out his sweater and the ride-em toy.

This picture isn’t exactly award winning or anything, but I had a proud Mommy moment when Vivi (almost 10 mos old) decided to give the other baby a hug. awwwwww!!!

This one, I was playing with some black & white effects in Photoshop. I kind of like how it turned out. (and that takes some talent, carrying 2 kids like that!)

I was thinking what I wanted to blog about today, and I was thinking of our trip to Put-in-Bay this coming summer and the photos I took when we were there last summer. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Lake Erie… I grew up in Sandusky (where Cedar Point is), and I really miss living on the lake, and going to the beach all summer. Columbus being landlocked and all… it’s a little slice of heaven to get back up to the lake in the summer time.

This is a photo of Put-in-bay’s downtown at night. I was playing with having my camera on a makeshift tripod, and taking some longer nighttime exposures. I had this one blown up to a 16×20 size for my brother for Christmas (he LOVES Put-in-bay).

These were from my set of fireworks pictures from the 4th of July 2007 at Put-in-bay. We had a great vantage point! I really like how the different colors reflect on the things on the ground. I’ve done a bit of research on fireworks photos, and this 4th of July, i’ve got some ideas of some things to try and see what I get.

Another one… I love the reflections in the water, reflections always intrigue me.

And oh the sunsets. I love sunsets. The guy sitting on the picnic table (nice guy, he is an instructor for Ohio State at the Stone Laboratories there in the summer) seemed like he was just relaxing and taking it all in.

And another sunset over lake Erie. Ahhh… these make me feel so nostalgic.
