Family photographs sneak peek

I had the pleasure of photographing this family today, and the weather at Inniswoods was gorgeous.   I took a different route through the park than I usually take, in search of the illusive brick wall with a hole in it… and I still did not find it.   I’ve been to Inniswoods enough times that I should’ve found it by now, but alas…  we did see the albino squirrel, which was near the stone bridge.

These were some neat pots that I previously hadn’t seen. (the baby thought the stones were nummy)

This one I had to include in the sneak peek.  It just makes you go awwwww…

This last one was something I’ve had on my brain for awhile, I’ve been thinking that I wanted to photograph a family looking over the edge of the bridge.  I think they were seeing frogs down there. (if the baby could talk, I think she’d be saying ‘I see one!’)

I had a lot of good ones from this photo session, I can’t wait to show the rest!

Family portraits sneak peek

We interrupt the photo book review series to bring you a sneak peek from a family portrait session from last weekend.  This was an extended family session, up at Inniswoods park, with 13 people (5 children).  Whew!  The flowering shrubberies were gorgeous this time of year!

And then we broke out for some smaller family group photos:

The little girl was just the cutest thing ever.  I asked her if she saw the puppy dog in my camera (lens), and she thought that idea was rather amusing.

Good luck, little Makaylynn

I had the opportunity this evening to meet and photograph this amazing family.  It was kind of a last minute thing (I was called this afternoon); they wanted pictures of their little baby Makaylynn before she undergoes surgery, and the only time to do it before she’s in the hospital was tonight.  So keep little Makaylynn in your thoughts and prayers that everything will go well.

They are such a beautiful family, and it was a pleasure to photograph them.  Here is a sneak peek:

Bat mitzvah sneak peek

I had my first bat mitzvah photography session on Friday, at the Congregation Tifereth Israel in Columbus, Ohio, and it was lots of fun.  Put a 13 year old girl in front of a photographer, and you have a girl who is having the time of her life being the center of attention and striking poses.  The synagogue had some really gorgeous stained glass windows, and the lighting in the sanctuary wasn’t too bad once they turned all the lights on.  We took pictures for about the full 2 hours, and I’ve got lots of good ones to go through.  Here is a sneak peek of a couple that caught my eye:

Are you ready for some baby cuteness?

Are you sure?? Because he’s really cute!! This little guy is 3 months old!  It was an on-location photography session in Westerville, Ohio. I took my portrait studio on the road and set up in their living room.

Here is a family portrait, and the baby is saying “What’s going on?”

And this one just makes me smile every time I look at it.  He was complaining saying “hey! I’m done with pictures! Where’s my binky?”

A couple, in a storyboard and a silhouette

I just finished proofing this session, which I did a week ago (at the Franklin park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio).  This couple was a lot of fun! They wanted some portraits of themselves for their apartment and for her mother for her birthday.  They laughed and laughed and had a good time the entire time.  So I was inspired to create this storyboard:

engagement photography session love

Since it was freezing cold outside (you can tell they were cold in the photos of the storyboard… we were outside for 5 minutes!), we had a short session in the portrait studio and a longer one on-location with natural light at the Franklin Park Conservatory.   They have some big frosted windows at the Conservatory, and I was inspired to try a silhouette with those windows.

I think it turned out cool!siilhouette photo of a couple in love

On an unrelated note, congrats to Lissi and Noah who won the grand prize for Intuit’s contest! Check out their blog at http://www.votecafeandplay.com to find out the inner scoop.  I’m looking forward to eating at their restaurant, and taking the kids there.  So a big thanks to everyone who voted for them!

Another congrats to Lindsay S. who won my January contest for a free photo shoot! Lindsay, please contact me to claim your prize!

Vote for a ‘Cafe and Play’ here in Columbus, Ohio! (and a sneak peek from a family photoshoot this past weekend)

This is a little off-topic for my photography blog, but we’re really trying to pass the word around.  We’re also hoping that the local news stations will pick it up too!

My friend, Alissa Derouchie entered into a contest at Intuit (maker of Quickbooks) along with 1500 other people. The contest was to put out your idea for a new business and if they like yours the best, you’ll be one of the finalists.  Well, they’re down to the final 5 and she is one of them!

Her idea is for a “Cafe and Play”, which would be a family-friendly cafe with play area for the kids.  Kind of like what they have at McDonalds or Chick-fil-A, but with HEALTHY food.  You know how you take your kids to the play area at Chick-fil-A, and you can’t leave there without getting french friends and chicken nuggets… Anyway, I would love for her business to become reality here in Columbus, for sure we need something like this to take our kids to.

So PLEASE go vote for her… the person with the most votes wins $50,000 to start up their business along with expert help!  The voting goes until Jan 31, and you can vote every day.  Please pass the word around and rally up the troops to vote for her.

To make this post on topic… here’s a sneak peek from a photoshoot this past weekend!  I took my photography studio on the road to Blacklick, Ohio (can you tell I’m trying to get keywords in for the search engines? :-)   for an on-location family portrait with this expanding family:

family portrait

That’s pretty amazing, if you ask me… 3 little kids, all looking in the same direction, and the youngest one being in a halfway good mood.  Someone needs to tickle Dad though, and get him to smile more.

Wait, did I say expanding? That’s because in July, they’re going to have TWINS!  How exciting is that?

child portrait - little boy The light was kind of nice, so I used natural light for their shoot (with a reflector) and didn’t break out my lights.

In this next photo, the 5 year old boy was helping me test out my reflector.  He remarked, “It didn’t DO anything!!”  I told him how it lightens shadows.  So when his parents came into the room, he told them, “That big white thing makes shadows lighter!!”

Photo of pregnant mother and boyThe youngest one being almost 2, and not having had his usual morning nap… well, he was in a GREAT mood the day before the shoot, but was in need of a nap and some snuggles from Mom.  He was down for the count right after the family picture, and I have a great series of the older two being really silly!
