Stalk the blog winner

Congrats to Lori M. for successfully stalking the blog… I fell asleep early last night and hadn’t updated the blog.  Whoops!  She wins a $10 Starbucks gift certificate for being the first person to email me about it.

In other news, Maylie just came up to me and said that she has a loose tooth.  I was having flashbacks of last August when she knocked one of her top teeth loose when she hit it on the bannister. (Thankfully, the tooth reset itself and is as good as new).  So I asked her if she knocked it on something, and she said “My tongue hit it and now it’s loose!”  My little girl is growing up… (and quickly I need to talk with my husband and find out how much money the Tooth Fairy is going to leave)

In honor of her, here is one of the shots I took of her in the Short North (playing in a puddle, which both kids jumped in a minute later)

On location photography in the Short North

I took the kids down to the Short North this morning, to scout out new locations for photography.  There are some really neat textures and backgrounds down there, all close together.  Apparently it’s a pretty popular place for pictures, because as I was packing the kids up in the car, I saw another photographer taking some engagement photos of a couple right in one of the spots I was using with the kids.

(too bad it started raining 5 minutes after I left)

This one was my favorite:

This is how Vivi entertained herself while we were taking pictures:

Portraits for a pageant portfolio

Today, I had a photography session with a little 6 year old girl, for some natural pictures for her pageant portfolio.  She had a lot of spunk and loved having her portrait taken.  First we did a few poses in the studio, and then we headed to downtown Westerville for a more urban feel to the photos.  Unfortunately, it started to rain (although it was starting to get dark at that point) so we had to move pretty quickly back to the cars.

Here’s a little sneak peek, isn’t she cute?

Child portraits in dandelions

I’m a little bit ahead of the game, posting some of my photography at 12:30 AM for the day, but I was inspired by the beautiful fields (ok, neighbors’ yards) of dandelions.  My husband sprays our yard so we don’t have very many in our yard. I thought, wouldn’t it be cute to have the girls sit in the field of dandelions and take the children’s portraits?

Maylie decided to drag the cat along for the ride.  She protested, but then accepted her fate.  And yes, Vivi did try to eat a dandelion…

I really like how these portraits turned out.

Gratuitous baby pictures

Just for kicks, since we hadn’t done it in awhile, I pulled Vivi into the studio and took a couple pictures of her  to commemorate her being 9 months old.  Isn’t she a cutie pie?

And then at lunch, she fell asleep in the high chair.  That was a first for her!

My son’s surgery went well today, in fact, he wants to play and not take it easy like he is supposed to be doing.  He’s liking the extra special food (popsicles galore) and the balloon from the hospital.  I took the girls this afternoon to have a meeting with a bride (my first foray into wedding photography, stay tuned!) and then we played at the castle park over on Huber Village  Rd in Westerville.  Oh and had ice cream. This weather is great!

Some of my favorite pictures of all time

Today was pretty non-stop… the kids had swim lessons in the morning, then lunch with my mom.  After I dropped Maylie off at preschool, we went to a synagogue to scope out the location for a bat mitzvah photography shoot next week.

So, on days like today, I dig deep into my files of some older photos… some of my favorite pictures of all time (that I’ve taken, that is).  Actually most of them are from our big trip to New Zealand in 2006.  If you EVER, and I mean EVER get the chance to go to New Zealand, run… don’t walk… but run, all the way to the airport and go.  It’s positively the most amazing and beautiful place in the world.

Here are a couple (of my many) photos from that (once in a lifetime) trip.

This first one is of windswept trees.  This was on the South Island, on the coast, which gets a lot of wind.  All the trees in the area were all like this.  I found it amazing that they were still alive!

This second one is of Wilmot Pass, which is on the way to Doubtful Sound (where we took a boat ride through the sound).

Tomorrow, my son goes in for adenoid surgery. Send good healing vibes his way! (He is having them removed because they block his nose, and he can’t breathe through his nose, so when it’s over, he should be able to breathe again!)

Beautiful and glowing… sneak peek pregnancy photos!

I had a session to do maternity pictures on Tues, and I convinced them that we should go to Inniswoods where the trees are in bloom.  We were so glad that we did!  The evening light was just right, and the weather was great.

This woman was simply stunning, don’t we all wish we could look this good (with no stretchmarks, even!) at 8 months pregnant! (and it’s a boy!)

Newborn baby photos

I had a photography session with a newborn baby last weekend! This little guy was a 7 lb baby and 9 days old, but he seemed a whole lot bigger than 7 lb.  Newborn babies are so sweet, and this one was no exception! Here’s a little sneak peek!

the Gecko

We had dinner at my sister’s new place, and got to “meet” her boyfriend’s gecko (the name of which is eluding me at the moment).  I’d never seen a gecko up close before… its feet feel really soft, and its scales are surprisingly soft as well.  My kids were squealing over it (that’s my daughter’s hand holding it in the picture).

Isn’t it cute? (in a reptiley sort of way)

Sunday and a Sun Dial

I was busy with 2 photoshoots today, and the first one is going to be a big surprise for someone’s Mother’s day.  So of course I can’t put a sneak peek on the blog, it’d ruin the surprise.

This week’s going to have some gorgeous weather.  Inniswoods was so lovely, with the trees in bloom for spring, I can’t wait to go back there to take pictures.

So, since I’m out of current blog fodder, I went back in some older photos, and leave you with this interesting one.  It is a human sun dial, and as you can see from Maylie’s shadow, it was taken at about 4 pm.  Very cool, huh?
