This is a little off-topic for my photography blog, but we’re really trying to pass the word around. We’re also hoping that the local news stations will pick it up too!
My friend, Alissa Derouchie entered into a contest at Intuit (maker of Quickbooks) along with 1500 other people. The contest was to put out your idea for a new business and if they like yours the best, you’ll be one of the finalists. Well, they’re down to the final 5 and she is one of them!
Her idea is for a “Cafe and Play”, which would be a family-friendly cafe with play area for the kids. Kind of like what they have at McDonalds or Chick-fil-A, but with HEALTHY food. You know how you take your kids to the play area at Chick-fil-A, and you can’t leave there without getting french friends and chicken nuggets… Anyway, I would love for her business to become reality here in Columbus, for sure we need something like this to take our kids to.
So PLEASE go vote for her… the person with the most votes wins $50,000 to start up their business along with expert help! The voting goes until Jan 31, and you can vote every day. Please pass the word around and rally up the troops to vote for her.

To make this post on topic… here’s a sneak peek from a photoshoot this past weekend! I took my photography studio on the road to Blacklick, Ohio (can you tell I’m trying to get keywords in for the search engines?
for an on-location family portrait with this expanding family:

That’s pretty amazing, if you ask me… 3 little kids, all looking in the same direction, and the youngest one being in a halfway good mood. Someone needs to tickle Dad though, and get him to smile more.
Wait, did I say expanding? That’s because in July, they’re going to have TWINS! How exciting is that?
The light was kind of nice, so I used natural light for their shoot (with a reflector) and didn’t break out my lights.
In this next photo, the 5 year old boy was helping me test out my reflector. He remarked, “It didn’t DO anything!!” I told him how it lightens shadows. So when his parents came into the room, he told them, “That big white thing makes shadows lighter!!”
The youngest one being almost 2, and not having had his usual morning nap… well, he was in a GREAT mood the day before the shoot, but was in need of a nap and some snuggles from Mom. He was down for the count right after the family picture, and I have a great series of the older two being really silly!
