1 month old baby portraits

Sometimes I get really excited while I’m proofing sessions… It’s really exciting for me to look at a photo and go “wow, I nailed it!”  So I had a photography session with this little 5 week old baby last weekend, and boy is he a doll-baby!  I got to snuggle him and get my littler-baby fix.

But anyway, I started proofing that session and this photo pops out at me:

Awww, isn’t that the sweetest thing?  I love daddies with their babies.

I also love little baby toes.  I think I shot 20 photos of just his little tootsies.

(I am such a sap for the little babies if you haven’t guessed!)

A funny picture

I’ve been swamped this past week doing photoshoots and proofing, so I’m just now getting around to updating the blog.  Who knew that January would be a busy month?  If you haven’t guessed, I like posting pictures of my kids the best.  Who wouldn’t? :-)   So here’s one that I took a couple weeks ago that makes me laugh when I look at it:

Portrait of my children

Yeah, poor Vivi, not having anything of it, and Maylie & Greg working to make her feel better.

And here is a portrait of my little heartbreaker:

Child's portrait

Can you believe she’s 5? More like 5 going on 15! (I think she thinks she’s a teenager too).

Last 2008 senior… helloooo 2009 seniors!

This high school senior boy was just squeaking by the yearbook photo deadline!   Here is a tip I discovered today…. if it’s too cold to do your high school senior pictures outside, go to the Franklin Park Conservatory (in Columbus, Ohio)!  The scenery in there is nice, and even in the one area that is a bit chillier than the rest, it’s still quite a bit warmer than the outdoors!  I wasn’t sure how the light in there would be for portraits, but it turned out to be quite nice, and I only needed to use my reflector for most of the shots.

Here is just a little sneak peek from this guy’s senior pictures…

A couple child portraits of my own kids

As a baby photographer in Columbus, Ohio (there I go with the keywords again), I always find it easier to photograph other people’s kids, because with my own kids, I have to get them dressed and coordinating, and hair looking nice, and the baby in a decent mood… and then play the role of photographer as well.  With other people’s children, they worry about their kids’ clothing and hair and I just have to hold the camera.

I realized that Vivi needed some pictures taken of her, so I got out the camera and flash and got the kids all posing together… and then made the photos black & white to hide their clashing outfits.  Good trick! Check it out:Photo of my three kids together Of course, it was not without its outtakes… I thought this one was particularly funny: Outtake of my kids  Maylie said “I’m going to make silly faces!” and I guess Vivi decided to join her.  Greg, who is usually the difficult to photograph one, was pleasantly smiling.

I actually like these photos so much, I am thinking of getting my Snaptotes sample with these on either side.  Oh yeah! I just got approved to be a Snaptotes reseller.  They have these great quality bags, and they put your photos on them.  Check them out: http://www.snaptotes.com.  These bags have gotten rave reviews.   They’re a little pricy, but they really make a statement when you go out, and everyone goes “WHERE did you get that bag???”  Now to decide which bag to get…ps. If anyone wants to buy one through me, you can use photos that I’ve taken at no extra charge!  There’s no discount if you use your own photos, the prices on their web site are the same as my prices.

Vote for a ‘Cafe and Play’ here in Columbus, Ohio! (and a sneak peek from a family photoshoot this past weekend)

This is a little off-topic for my photography blog, but we’re really trying to pass the word around.  We’re also hoping that the local news stations will pick it up too!

My friend, Alissa Derouchie entered into a contest at Intuit (maker of Quickbooks) along with 1500 other people. The contest was to put out your idea for a new business and if they like yours the best, you’ll be one of the finalists.  Well, they’re down to the final 5 and she is one of them!

Her idea is for a “Cafe and Play”, which would be a family-friendly cafe with play area for the kids.  Kind of like what they have at McDonalds or Chick-fil-A, but with HEALTHY food.  You know how you take your kids to the play area at Chick-fil-A, and you can’t leave there without getting french friends and chicken nuggets… Anyway, I would love for her business to become reality here in Columbus, for sure we need something like this to take our kids to.

So PLEASE go vote for her… the person with the most votes wins $50,000 to start up their business along with expert help!  The voting goes until Jan 31, and you can vote every day.  Please pass the word around and rally up the troops to vote for her.

To make this post on topic… here’s a sneak peek from a photoshoot this past weekend!  I took my photography studio on the road to Blacklick, Ohio (can you tell I’m trying to get keywords in for the search engines? :-)   for an on-location family portrait with this expanding family:

family portrait

That’s pretty amazing, if you ask me… 3 little kids, all looking in the same direction, and the youngest one being in a halfway good mood.  Someone needs to tickle Dad though, and get him to smile more.

Wait, did I say expanding? That’s because in July, they’re going to have TWINS!  How exciting is that?

child portrait - little boy The light was kind of nice, so I used natural light for their shoot (with a reflector) and didn’t break out my lights.

In this next photo, the 5 year old boy was helping me test out my reflector.  He remarked, “It didn’t DO anything!!”  I told him how it lightens shadows.  So when his parents came into the room, he told them, “That big white thing makes shadows lighter!!”

Photo of pregnant mother and boyThe youngest one being almost 2, and not having had his usual morning nap… well, he was in a GREAT mood the day before the shoot, but was in need of a nap and some snuggles from Mom.  He was down for the count right after the family picture, and I have a great series of the older two being really silly!

Sweet little girl

I had the pleasure of photographing a family earlier today with the most adorable little child, up in Westerville.  She’s everyone’s little princess and she knows she’s cute!  She wanted to “help” me with my light stands and other photography equipment.  She also showed me her cookie cutters in her very own drawer in her grandma’s kitchen.

child portrait

This photo practically brought me to tears, it was so cute.  She has a little shell in the shape of a heart that she’s holding.  Do you think her mom gets told a lot that she should be in modeling?  I think so!

Of course, like any typical (almost) 2 year old, they go from happy to unhappy like an on-off switch.  Her happy time didn’t last too long, and she needed some TLC from Mommy.

Gorgeous senior

I had the pleasure of photographing this stunning high school senior this past weekend.  We really lucked out with the weather, since it was unseasonably warm, so shooting outside was very pleasant!  I was really afraid it was going to rain, but it held off for us.  We started out with a short shoot in the studio, and then drove to downtown Westerville for some urban photos. (The parks are a bit dismal this time of year).

Here’s a sneak peek at a couple of my favs:

I can’t get enough of these cheeks!

This is Vivi, aka “cheekers”.  5 months old and pinchable, eatable cheeks.  Pictures of her smiling are better done as videos because she bounces and squeals when she’s happy!

My next project, after I work on the photoshoots I have on Sunday, is to get the camera (and kids) outside in the snow before it melts away.

I’m running an awesome contest for January!  I will be holding a drawing on Feb 1, 2008, and the winner will receive a photoshoot (good for anytime in 2008) with an Elite package.  This is a $225 value!

Happy New Year!

The New Year is upon us, and so starts my New Year’s resolution.  I had my old photography blog that I got out of updating, but this year I’ve resolved to  keep this one updated no matter how busy I get with other things.

I will be putting up a photo of the week… it might be from a client shoot or it might be something random.  If you are having a photoshoot done, you’ll find a “sneak peek” here on the blog.  I’ll also be posting about monthly specials, and contests.  To get the monthly newsletter right to your inbox, just go to http://www.dgnphoto.net and go to the Contact page, and input your email address and that you’d like to be added to the newsletter list.
